Located in a small building adorned with old tiles in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, the “New York Braces Dental” by Studio Starsis is a fresh take on orthodontic office spaces. The design of this office has been influenced by the retro era with amazing retro floor lamps and unique images made up of rich colors and textures.

New york has also been one of the inspirations for the office decor, since it is the second home of the client where he spent his shining twenties and thirties and of course, braces, the orthodontist’s specialty.

Although presenting a hygienic image through clean and regularized space, dentist’s offices usually cause vague discomfort and tension, as Starsis puts it. Therefore, it was necessary to create a comfortable hub while maintaining a hygienic image. In that sense, retro-like furniture and props are displayed to reduce the feeling of discomfort. By doing so, the studio hopes to chase away tension with an enjoyable cup of coffee.

The image of orthodontics can be seen throughout the space — where different materials become interconnected with each other to create one piece of furniture. As an example, the ‘braces table’ reception desk in front of the first-floor entrance uses uneven circular wooden ornaments, balanced with steel materials, to provide a space with a unique feeling of stability.

The resting area on the first basement level has a small bar is installed to enjoy tea and coffee. The shelves, made from connecting circular pipes and finished lumbers, provide a soft feel to the all-white space.

The green of the plants works great with the all-white space and are in harmony with the rest of the office decor, transporting all that cozy and retro atmosphere into its design.

The comfortable furnishings and the soft natural light are in consistency with a wooden feel and small props, giving it a refined touch. The floor lamp brings the retro feeling to the waiting room.
